An oops or Oh Yea moment
In the data processing field, if you work in enough different environments patterns emerge. The other day, the guy behind me was bitching and moaning for the the better part of the day about a specific process. From mid-morning to mid-afternoon, he was complaining about one aspect after another.
The complaining was not a particular problem. The thing to note was the fellow typically thinks he doesn't make mistakes. Not necessarily a know-it-all, but he tends to jump to conclusions and asserts himself. His personality can be overbearing. He doesn't tend to allow for other perspectives. He doesn't like to be wrong.
So I meekly asked a few questions. I was able to find the problem within seconds.
Because I asked the questions and was willing to be wrong aided in the speed of finding the solution. The utlization of different perspective can be invaluable.

Spare Time
I was up at 6:30 this morning.
Did some work this morning.
Since mid-morning there has been nothing to do.
I've completed a crypto-gram and a number of games of Freecell.
I've also coded a sample C program.
I suspect management knows of this kind of idle time.
I suspect managment let's us sit on purpose.
The guy in front has been complaining about too much work. Stuff I can do.

An Annoyance alert
I think I annoyed my manager by asking questions.
This is a second event in recent past - I'm concerned he will make another humiliation run at me later this summer. A way to get rid of me.
A way to indicate to management - see he doesn't know his stuff - this thing has something to do with it.
I hope I don't fulfill my own prophecy - by accident.

A Manager betrays a confidence
Is it proper for a request to keep something private to be ignored by management. My father recently passed away. I asked that the news not be shared.
On my return, I had to deal with sympathies of colleagues. While I appreciated their concern.
It was not a situation I wanted to deal with. But my manager ignored me request.

A Day in my life
It's the Friday before a the long Fourth of July weekend. It's 8:30ish.
I've nothing scheduled for today. Other in the row are warming up for a rigorous day of boredom. One has already started mini-basketball. One is taking a the day off.
I volunteered for something yesterday. I was reprimanded with a questioning what I did. I used the name from one specification document. But because it was not the standard naming convention - and I asked the question which one should I use - this drew the foul.
